5 out of 5 stars Very nice Blu-Ray player!   September 3, 2010
Osman S.
Summary: Great network player, slightly overpriced.

CAUTION: Before you do ANYTHING with this player, make sure you update the firmware. Blu-Ray players are notoriously unreliable due to DRM restrictions put in place by movie studios. Firmware upgrades also contain speed improvements, bug fixes, etc.

Overall I really like this player, here are some major points I wanted to highlight:
- It is much quicker at loading blu-ray movies than other players.
- Netflix and Pandora are also a very nice addition to this player. Netflix instant movies load relatively fast (I have a 12Mbps ISP link) and Pandora's UI is semi-intuitive.
- Wireless comes standard on this box! I love not having to run an extra cable from my router to my blu-ray player. I wish my TV supported this without any additional costs.\
- Although the firmware upgrade took FOREVER, it was worth it as it fixed many issues I had.

The only downside that I can think of for this player was that it is unable to play (even after firmware update) any Lionsgate studio movies. Movies like American Psycho just go black after the studio logo plays. And yes I am in northern America, so it doesn't make any sense.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Features / Questionable Quality   September 3, 2010
D. Statler (Fletcher, OK)
First off, I would point out that I have a love / hate opinion of LG. I have had LG products last for years and other in for repairs within months. With that said I have bought two LG products in the last two months, the LD550 LCD TV and the BD570 Bluray player.

I had decided on this BD player because of the built in wireless which to this point has worked very well. The player has been able to update without a problem and I have been able to stream Netflix and Vudu without significant signal drop (this has been checked using the Vudu bandwidth utility).

The second reason for my selection was to get Netflix and Vudu on a single box. Before I got the BD570, I had to go to 1 of 3 different items to get the video streams I wanted. The only thing I feel is lacking at this point is a Hulu application. One major annoyance is the fact that Netflix constantly deactivates the BD570 from my account making it a requirement to reactivate the player anytime I want to stream a show. I blame this on the BD570's Netflix application as I do not have this issue with the LD550 or my Xbox.

Over all, the LG BD570 does work well. It has a great picture teamed up with my Samsung 52 in. LCD, bluray loads are faster than the player it replaced, and it has good features even if they are a little quirky.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't be more pleased.   September 3, 2010
John S. (Bethlehem, PA USA)
I am totally happy with this machine. From the time I opened the box, until I enjoyed my first movie, the elapsed time was less than half an hour. And this included setting up the wifi connection to Netflix. There were absolutely no problems. Everything worked just like it should. The quality of the Netflix streaming picture was very good. It was this feature that prompted me to make the purchase. Sure beats watching a movie on laptop screen. I have played back audio CDs, including ones I recorded, with no problems. All DVDs I have tried so far have worked with no problem. The only item I have not played is a blu-ray disc, since I don't own one. I will update this review if I incur any problems when I play some blu-ray discs in the future.

3 out of 5 stars LG blueray player   September 3, 2010
Best Cook around
I have come across more Xvids that will not play. For the record the 5meg photos and Xvids that will not play on the BD570 play just fine on my OPPO DV980-H. One other thing is that the disk tray when extended feels like it will break off with the slightest pressure, bends so easily it really feels flimsy. Overall it is a good device for the price but not excellent like the opera films. You get what you pay for. Overall, I am disappointed in this player. Blu-Ray, no problems. Connected to my laptop, no problem. Playing most divx and xvid, no problem. However I found that it will not display JPEG's over a certain size. Not sure of exact size but seems like any photos over 5meg will not display. Under about 4meg works well for a slideshow.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny   September 2, 2010
steve
This product is worth every penny. Everything it says it does it really does. After opening the box and plugging in within the hour i was watching netflix, youtube, and listening to pandora. Blu ray movies started right up and pic quality was great. I have it hooked up to a lg 1080p 22inch tv and it looks fantastic
