Cuts out during DVD Play September 4, 2010 Anthony Catalano (Boulder, CO) Received the unit from Amazon very promptly. Setup was straightforward, although a little confusing. Connected to the internet easily via ethernet cable. However DVD play was a serious problem. The unit would randomly generate a "pop" in the audio like the effect of lighting on AM radio audio, also causing the video to go blank. This would last about 1 second.I tried several DVDs,-all the same. Checked the forums and many others have had the same unresolved problem. I performed all the firmware updates,-no luck; problem is persistent. Strange that it only occurs with DVDs. Since the unit replaced a previous first gen Samsung Blu-ray player I do not believe it is either the cables or other connections or the TV. Hard to believe that a product with such a fundamental flaw was released into the market place. Other than not working for its primary mission, it seemed to work well (:)), liked the remote, setup, clarity of picture etc.,
I am returning the unit to Amazon. Amazon customer service is fantastic! Generated the RMA and printed a UPS return label in moments. Hat's off to Amazon and Bezos.
works great September 4, 2010 Sanjay (NJ USA) Got this model with builtin wifi as I wanted the ability watch streaming video from the internet - youtube, netflix, picassa etc.
Bluray performance is great.
The remote usability for configuring the wifi, especially entering the 26 character security key was tortuous. Samsung engineering...pl think of something to make it simple.
Initially this unit was not connecting to my wifi router (linksys wireless G) as it was almost 30 ft away. The unit instead of giving an error message that the signal level was not adequate to make the connection, just gives a generic message that it failed to get the IP address from the router. This message went away once I got the range extender and and was able to get a stronger signal level near the bd-c6500.
The performance of streaming video over wifi is excellent once you have an excellent wifi connection.
No Mac or airport issues at all September 4, 2010 S. Wahl (Vancouver BC) Great player. Looks great and anynet works flawless with my Samsung TV. Connected to wireless network on first try no problem (using Airport extreme) Just be sure to have a 2.4 Ghz network created and don't try connecting it to a 5 ghz network. Updated firmware no problem and plays all files off Hard drive (mkv, mp4, avi, divx, wmv) Strangely won't play m4v files (doesn't even see them) However, most of those can be changed to mp4 with no problem and played.
Thumbs up
Cutting the ties to cable TV September 3, 2010 Peter S. Gadzinski I purchased this item as part of a plan to cut my ties to cable TV. Performs very well overall, particularly the wireless connectivity feature. Only complaint is dearth of internet entertainment options. I subscribe to Netflix and this works fine. However, other bundled options are very limited. You Tube on a 42 inch HD plasma TV is not what I am looking for!
Has old Netflix interface & asked for Netflix ID 3 times in 2 weeks - I returned it September 2, 2010 DLBUYER (St. Louis, Mo) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this mainly for Netflix streaming. If you've seen or used the new Netflix interface that allows you to find movies without a PC, you'll be disappointed in this unit. Also, it was annoying that the box made me re-enter my Netflix code online 3 times in 2 weeks. In addition, when you return to a TV series it shows you're on episode 2 even though you may be on episode 10. Rovi, which looked like a great feature could not tell what time zone I'm in and all times on the listing grid ended in "6". So instead of 2:30, 3:00, 3:30, etc. It shows 2:36, 3:06, 3:36, etc. Finally, my Sharp HDTV remote could not control the box.
